Youmail is a visual voicemail app for Android, Blackberry, and Iphone that will replace your costly voicemail plan from your carrier. Youmail has recently launched in Canada and their basic service is free, but I found it to be quite unreliable for my callers leaving voice mails.
To rectify this, I signed up for their “Youmail Pro” account which is normally $19.99 USD per year. If you use the promo code “FIX10DIGIT” the price immediately drops to $5.00 per year and you get your own personal voicemail access number instead of the shared one used for the free account. This also allows you to have longer greetings and allows your callers to leave longer voicemail messages as well.
The caveat is that youmail currently has a limited amount of numbers in Canada. To get around this I got a Ottawa based number and added this number to my “Rogers My 10″ so I would not be charged any long distance charges when forwarding my phone to this number.
For those of us on Rogers, you will also have to sign up for Rogers One number and activate the “Forward when no answer” feature to have the calls routed to your Youmail access number.
This is a better service than the normal carrier voicemail services as it is cheaper ($5 / year vs. $8-$10 per month) and the smart voicemail greeting that speaks the caller’s name is awesome! “Hello Jane, Tim is not available right now..”
Once again, please make sure that if you are signing up for this service to use the “FIX10DIGIT” Promo code so you can reap the $15.00 per year savings.
